Practising gratitude is a habit you do want to acquire

Practising gratitude might seem like an odd concept, especially right now when our minds are so full of uncertainty. A time when so many people around us are focusing on the negative. Trust me – this is a worthwhile skill to acquire and there is no better time to do this than right now.

Every morning when you wake up make a conscious effort to be thankful. If you make a deliberate point of being grateful for the positive things in your life, this will soon become a habit. The more you show appreciation for all the good things in your life, the more you will exude positive energy. And this positivity will attract more positivity to you.

It is so easy to focus on what is not working for you right now, but that will get you nowhere. You may just surprise yourself when you realise how many great things you have to be grateful for. Some of them may be big – like being healthy, being with the people you are about – and some may be small -listening to the birds singing outside, the comfort of running water.

Try it – you will find that no matter how bad you think things are, each one of us has so much for which we should be grateful.

Even on those days when you are feeling low, which is bound to happen to all of us during this lockdown period, you should still practise gratitude. Actually it is on these days that you really need to be thankful and grow your appreciation level. By doing this you will drive away the negativity that is trying to creep into your head space.

And once you have created this habit of practising gratitude for your life, you will be able to show greater gratitude to those around you, and that is the ultimate expression of appreciation.
