Stop to Smell the Roses

Ever had someone tell you to slow down? Ever had someone tell you to stop and smell the roses?

Well, there is much more to that simple little phrase. Flowers actually have a magical quality beyond what most of us imagine.

Let’s consider the physical beauty of flowers and how much joy can be spread by simply giving someone a bunch of fresh flowers. Flowers placed in a home or office can lift up its energy and the spirit of those who move in that space. And we only need to turn and look at flowers to see that there is still beauty in the world.

Gardens that are full of glorious flowers attract all sorts of life, and give life to all sorts of marvellous creatures. In fact, I don’t know of anyone who actually dislikes flowers.

But what few of us consider is that flowers are so much more than just pretty “ornaments” in homes, offices or gardens.

Flowers have healing properties and there is plenty of research to support this statement. Studies have shown that patients recover more quickly if they have a view of a garden. And most need less pain medication too!

Did you know that smelling the fragrance of a gorgeous bloom can actually lower your blood pressure?

Roses are often used in anger management as smelling a rose can reduce adrenaline production, and slow a person to anger.

In today’s stressful world, where it is all about go, go, go – we need to remember to make time to stop to smell the roses.

And then we need to take that a step further. We need to share the power of flowers with others, and I am not talking about giving flowers to our friends and family. I am talking about reaching out and sharing flowers with those who may just need that extra boost flowers will give them.
