It is sometimes so easy to doubt our self-worth

And the world around, which is full of double standards, does not make it any easier. We are constantly told that we should be this and that, and often the this and thatis nothing like our reality.

At times when self-doubt starts creeping into our minds, we need to stand firm and hold fast onto the fact that each one of us is unique and has a valuable contribution. Each one of us has incredible talent and the ability to make a difference to those around us.

But that is not always as easy as it sounds. There are times when our self-esteem is at such a low that we feel unable to focus on even the simplest task. So how do we move ourselves out of this quagmire? How do we stop the webs of self-doubt from entangling us?

There isn’t a one size fits all solution, but the first step is to sit up and pay attention to our feelings. We need to be able to see that it is self-doubt that is strangling us. Then we need to working against the negative grip that self-doubt can have. If we are able to identify what it is that triggers this, and there may be several different triggers, then we will become more aware and able to counter the feelings as they start to rise inside.

When in the grip of self-doubt, it is important to have the presence of mind to take action. Take a deep breath, and then another. And then focus on the simple things that need to done. Make a list. Even a short list of what you need to do. And then start. Accomplishing even the smallest task will make you feel that you have achieved something. It will make you feel good.

Each small step that you take away from self-doubt is a step in the correct direction. But be aware that this can be a journey of many many small steps, and indeed one which you will take often. All you need to remember is that you are strong enough to work against your self-doubt and come out the other side knowing you are unique and gifted, and you are worth it!
