We all have places we have been, and things we have done. And our pasts are filled with good decisions and poor decisions. Our pasts are filled with lessons learnt, and some we just could not grasp.
Isn’t it strange that so many people are fixated on their pasts? And even stranger still is that some people are fixated on other people’s pasts. What is this fixation? And why should our past matter so much to others? And why do we give it the importance we do?
We are not defined by our past, unless we allow ourselves to be. Our past certainly does not dictate what our future will be. All our past says is that we were there. And now we are here.
It serves no purpose to waste valuable energy ruminating on the past. You cannot change the past. It is just that – the past. It is gone. It is done and dusted. It is over. And you cannot live through it again. So, don’t spend hours rehashing the things you did and didn’t do, the things you said and didn’t say.
Your past does not determine where you can go, what you can do and it also certainly does not determine who you can be.
Wise up! What you have is today, and tomorrow. You have your entire future and you can influence that. You can decide what to do, what to say and who you want to be. Grab today in both hands, and turn your back on the past.
