TRUE COLOURS

All too often, we encounter situations where we witness the true colours of those around us, but we may choose to ignore or downplay this information for various reasons. This could stem from our reluctance to confront the reality of someone’s character, because by doing this it could disrupt our existing relationships. Even worse it would force us to question our own judgment. Sometimes we simply prioritise keeping the peace and avoiding conflict and choose not to confront revelations that are unsettling.

This is counter-productive, and actually does a disservice to us especially because turning a blind eye to someone’s true nature will have long term consequences for our own lives. Turning a blind eye could lead to a build-up of unresolved issues, causing a pressure-cooker type effect. It also means that we will continue to foster unhealthy relationships And all of this could end up causing us untold emotional distress.

It is far better to be honest with ourselves, and acknowledge and address these realities. Doing this will allow us to make more informed decisions about the relationships we choose to cultivate, and this will, in turn, ensure we surround ourselves with genuine and supportive people who contribute to our emotional well-being and personal growth.
